Shame on Norfolk Southern
In Atlanta, workers are demonstrating against Norfolk Southern's undermining of area standards that Atlanta carpenters have spent over 100 years fighting to establish. The following is from a flyer distributed by the pickets:
Norfolk Southern Bad Corporate Citizen For Desecration of the American Way of Life. A rat is a contractor that does not pay all of its employees prevailing wages, including either providing or making payments for family health care and pension benefits. Shame on Norfolk Southern Corp. for contributing to the erosion of area standards for Atlanta carpenter craft workers...
Southeastern Carpenters Regional Council has a labor dispute with DK Interiors which is a subcontractor for HITT Contracting at Promenade One. DK interiors does not meet area labor standards, including providing or fully paying for family healthcare and pensions for all of its carpenter craft employees. Southeastern Carpenters Regional Council objects to substandard wage employers like DK Interiors working in the community. In our opinion the community ends up paying the tab for employee health care and low wages tend to lower general community standards, thereby encouraging crime and other social ills....Please call Charlotte Burcham with Norfolk Southern Corp at 404 529 1593 and tell them that you want them to do all they can to change this situation and see that area labor standards are met for their construction projects. Call 706 854 8777 for further information.

most of the protesters for the labor unions are actually homeless and are not allowed to work at full time capacity. This is because then the labor union would be required to pay them benefits. So it is actually very ironic that they hire homeless people to protest on their behalf. The reason that the homeless are used is because the skilled laborers are too busy to protest and have plenty of jobs to be completed.
